Therapy for High-Achieving Women in Tampa Bay

You moved to Tampa for the opportunity — the growing career, the sunshine, the fresh start. But no one warned you that building a new life from scratch would feel this isolating. You're excelling at work, saying yes to every networking happy hour on South Howard, and still lying awake at 2 a.m. wondering why none of it feels like enough. I work with driven women in Tampa Bay who are tired of performing "fine" and ready to actually feel it.

I see what's underneath the Tampa success story.

I'm Dr. Jaime Bercuson — a psychologist trained at the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium with nearly two decades of experience working with women who look polished on the outside and feel overwhelmed on the inside.

Tampa Bay is in the middle of a massive growth wave, and the women fueling it are under real pressure. Whether you're managing portfolios at Raymond James, leading a team at Moffitt or BayCare, navigating the tech startup scene along Water Street, or holding things together as a military spouse at MacDill — the demands are relentless. Tampa sells itself as laid-back, but the corporate culture here is anything but casual. I understand the gap between the lifestyle people see and the anxiety you actually carry.

What I Treat

What Tampa Bay women carry quietly

High-Functioning Anxiety

You crushed the relocation, landed the role, decorated the house in South Tampa. From the outside, the transition looks seamless. Inside, your nervous system hasn't caught up. The constant mental planning, the need to prove yourself in a new city, the worry that if you slow down everything will fall apart — that's high-functioning anxiety, and it deserves real attention.

Perfectionism

The presentation has to be flawless. The house has to look effortless. The kids have to be thriving. You moved here for a better quality of life, but the bar you set for yourself came with you — and in a city full of ambitious transplants all trying to build something, it only got higher. Perfectionism isn't discipline; it's a trap that keeps you from ever feeling like you've arrived.

Burnout & Overwhelm

You're running on adrenaline and iced coffee, toggling between back-to-back meetings and school pickup across the Gandy Bridge. Tampa's boom means opportunity, but it also means longer hours, higher stakes, and the creeping feeling that you're giving everything to your career and your family and there's nothing left for you. The exhaustion isn't laziness — it's a signal.

Perimenopause & Mood Changes

The brain fog showed up uninvited. The irritability feels foreign. Sleep became unreliable, and anxiety that you managed for years suddenly has a sharper edge. Hormonal shifts during perimenopause are real and disorienting — especially when you're used to being the person who handles everything. You deserve more than being told it's "just stress."

The Relocation Identity Crisis

You left New York, Chicago, or LA for Tampa — maybe for a partner's job, maybe for lower taxes, maybe for both. The cost-of-living relief everyone promised hasn't quite materialized, and the support network you spent years building is a thousand miles away. You're starting over at 35 or 40, and no one talks about how destabilizing that actually is.

The Loneliness Behind the Social Calendar

Hyde Park brunch, SoHo happy hours, Armature Works on a Friday night — your calendar looks full, but the connections feel surface-level. Making real friends as an adult in a new city is brutally hard, and the effort of constantly putting yourself out there while privately feeling disconnected is its own kind of exhaustion. It's not that something is wrong with you. It's that starting over is genuinely difficult.

My Approach

Structured, evidence-based therapy — not platitudes

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — two of the most rigorously researched treatments for anxiety. CBT produces large effect sizes (g > 0.80) for anxiety disorders. These are practical frameworks with tools you can apply between sessions, not abstract talk therapy where you leave wondering what you actually gained.

I also bring a whole-person, integrative perspective. Anxiety rarely stays in your head — it shows up in your sleep, your digestion, your hormones, your relationships. I pay attention to all of it because real change happens when we address the full picture, not just the thoughts.

Sessions are 50 minutes via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. Log in from your home office in Wesley Chapel, your lunch break in the Westshore District, or anywhere in Florida with privacy and a solid connection. No commute across the bridge required.

I offer teletherapy via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. While sessions aren't in-person, I'm licensed in Florida and serve clients throughout the Tampa Bay area — Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco counties, and all of Florida. Research shows teletherapy is as effective as in-person therapy for anxiety, and it saves you the commute across the Howard Frankland or the slog through I-275 traffic.

I'm based in Mountain Time (MT), which is two hours behind Eastern Time. Sessions are scheduled in Mountain Time, but I have availability throughout the day, including times that work well for Tampa Bay clients. Many clients actually find the time difference useful — a midday slot on my end becomes a lunchtime session on yours, and early-morning appointments fit neatly before the workday starts.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — evidence-based approaches with strong research support for treating anxiety, perfectionism, and burnout. I also bring a whole-person, integrative perspective — I pay attention to how stress manifests in your body, your sleep, your hormones, and your relationships.
