Therapy for High-Achieving Women in San Francisco

The city rewards ambition and punishes rest. You're excelling in tech, finance, law, medicine, or your startup — performing at a level most people only aspire to. But privately, the anxiety never stops. I help San Francisco women who are thriving on paper but drowning underneath.

Your San Francisco Psychologist

A Stanford-trained psychologist who understands Bay Area culture.

I'm Dr. Jaime Bercuson — a California-licensed psychologist who trained at the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium. I've spent nearly two decades working with women who look like they have everything figured out but privately feel like they're barely holding on.

I understand San Francisco. The relentless work ethic, the comparison to everyone else's LinkedIn, the guilt of struggling when you "have it so good." The pressure to optimize everything — your career, your body, your relationships, your morning routine — while pretending it's all effortless. You deserve a psychologist who gets the specific pressures of Bay Area life, not one who needs you to explain why your Series B closing feels like a panic attack.

What I Treat

The things San Francisco women don't say out loud

High-Functioning Anxiety

You're the one everyone leans on — organized, sharp, always delivering. But the mental chatter never stops, and you can't remember the last time you felt genuinely at ease. Not just "meditating in Dolores Park" relaxed — actually calm inside.

Perfectionism

The career, the apartment, the network, the side project — nothing is ever quite right. You set the bar impossibly high and punish yourself when you can't clear it. You know this pattern isn't sustainable, but lowering your standards feels like giving up.

Burnout — Tech, Startup & Finance

You're running on caffeine and cortisol but you keep shipping because who else is going to do it? The layoff rounds, the 80-hour weeks, the performance reviews that feel existential — you've lost touch with who you are outside of what you produce.

Perimenopause & Mood Changes

The anxiety hit out of nowhere — or maybe it got louder. Sleep disruption, irritability, brain fog, a sense that you're losing yourself. Hormonal shifts are real, and they deserve more than "just push through it" or another biohacking protocol.

Life Transitions

A layoff, a career pivot, a relationship ending in a city where everyone seems to be moving on, a move out of SF, kids changing the equation. In a transient city, change triggers anxiety you didn't expect and grief you don't have language for yet.

The Isolation of Success

You have the career people envy, the life that looks perfect on Instagram, and you still feel empty, anxious, or quietly resentful. Saying that out loud feels ungrateful in a city that celebrates achievement above all else. It's not ungrateful. It's honest — and it's the starting point for real change.

My Approach

Evidence-based therapy, not vague advice

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — two of the most researched and effective approaches for anxiety. CBT produces large effect sizes (g > 0.80) for anxiety disorders. These aren't abstract theories; they're practical, structured frameworks that give you tools you can use between sessions.

I also take a whole-person perspective — paying attention to how stress shows up in your body, your sleep, your hormones, and your relationships. Anxiety doesn't exist in a vacuum, and neither does healing.

Sessions are 50 minutes via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. You can be at home in Pacific Heights, in your office in SOMA, or anywhere you have privacy and a reliable connection. I'm based on Mountain Time (one hour ahead of Pacific) and offer scheduling that works for SF professionals.

I offer teletherapy via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. While sessions aren't in-person, I'm a California-licensed psychologist who understands Bay Area culture and the unique pressures of San Francisco professional life. Research shows teletherapy is as effective as in-person therapy for anxiety, and it offers more flexibility — no fighting MUNI, no circling for parking in the Marina, and no commuting across the city.
